Company Calendar Planner for Jira v 5.7.x: Pivot report

Did you know that you can quickly summarize the big data and highlight the important information, by generating a pivot report.

First, open a report mode:

Then, switch to the tab Pivot Report:

Before configuring the pivot report, ask yourself “What information am I looking for?“

Let’s say, you want to see the events that are due within the week period, starting June 20th and ending June 26th. In addition, you want to be able to quickly compare them based on a project, since you have three different projects.

The standard report would provide you the necessary information. Although, it would be difficult to compare the events based on a project. Please see below the standard report:

As you can see, there are 20 total days that sum the due date events for three projects. The report doesn’t provide an easy way to compare the events based on a project. In contrast, this can be easily achieved, by generating a pivot report.

The pivot report consists of Row, Column and Data fields.

Row fields

The Row field is the data that will be presented on the left, on your report. You can select up to three Row fields. The total time for each Row field can be seen in the most right column Total.

Column field

The Column field is the data that will be presented in columns on your report. Each column will have the total time display for the column.

You can select only one Column field.

Data field

The Data field is always the total time.

Remember: you cannot change the Data field as it is always the total time.

On Pivot Report tab, in report mode, knowing what information you are seeking, you can start configuring the Row and Column fields for the pivot report.

Let’s continue with our example case, and select “Day“ and “Users“ as Row fields, and “Project“ as Column field. Then, generate a pivot report.

Notice that the data presented via the pivot report is so much more clear now, comparing to the standard report. Now, we can easily compare the events that are due selected week, based on a project.
