Working with Events

Calendar brings different types of events together in a single calendar, allowing you to plan work, report time, and organize team activities without switching between applications.

Depending on your calendar configuration, you can work with Jira Date Events and Custom Events. While each event type is designed for a different purpose, they all follow a similar workflow for viewing and managing events.

This section introduces the supported event types and explains the common actions available when working with events. Detailed instructions for each event type are available in the related articles.

Event Types

Calendar supports the following editable event types.

Jira Date Events

Jira Date Events are based on Jira issue date or date-time fields. They allow you to schedule existing Jira issues, create new Jira issues directly from the calendar, and keep event information synchronized with Jira.

Custom Events

Custom Events are standalone calendar events used for meetings, vacations, business trips, planning activities, and administrator-defined event types.

Managing Events

Once an event has been created, select it to open the Event Information dialog. The dialog displays event details and provides the actions available for the selected event.

The available actions depend on the event type, the source configuration, and your permissions.

Editing Events

Most events can be edited directly from the calendar.

Depending on the event type, you can edit an event by:

clicking Edit in the Event Information dialog;
double-clicking the event;
dragging and dropping the event to a different date or time;
resizing the event to change its duration;
using Quick Edit to update supported fields directly from the calendar.

The available editing options vary depending on the selected event type.

Copying Events

Copying an event is a convenient way to create a new event using an existing one as a starting point.

Depending on the event type, Calendar supports several ways to copy events, including:

creating a new event from the Event Information dialog;
dragging an event while holding the Shift key;

The copied event inherits the relevant information from the original event. The exact fields that are copied depend on the selected event type and its configuration.

Deleting Events

Events can be deleted from either the Edit Event dialog or the Event Information dialog.

The result of deleting an event depends on the event type.

For example:

deleting a Custom Event permanently removes the event from the calendar;
deleting a Jira Date Event clears the Jira field used by the event without deleting the Jira issue itself.

Always review the confirmation message before deleting an event.

Viewing Non-editable Events

Not every event displayed on the calendar can be managed directly within Calendar.

Events based on iCalendar, Jira Versions, and Jira Sprints are synchronized from their original source and are intended for viewing only. Because these events are managed outside Calendar, they cannot be created, edited, or deleted within the application.

Depending on the event source, you may still be able to use the Create Event action to create a new editable event based on an existing event.

Working with Jira Issues

Events linked to Jira issues provide quick access to the corresponding Jira issue.

Selecting an issue key from an event block or the Event Information dialog opens the native Jira issue dialog, allowing you to review or update issue details without leaving the calendar.

Troubleshooting

Configured Jira Field Is Missing

If a field configured for a Jira Date Event does not appear in the Create Event or Edit Event dialog, verify that:

the field has been added to the Jira Create Issue and Edit Issue screens;
the field context includes the selected project and issue type;
the field is not restricted by Jira field security.

If the configuration is correct and the field is still unavailable, review the Jira Date source configuration.
