Security tab

Security tab

Control who can view, edit, and manage your Gantt charts. The Security tab lets chart managers configure chart visibility, assign user roles, and, if enabled by a Jira administrator, configure chart impersonation.

What you can configure

The Security tab allows you to:

  • Control who can access a Gantt chart.

  • Choose whether the chart is public or restricted.

  • Assign Managers, Editors, and Viewers.

  • Configure chart impersonation (if enabled globally).

Global permissions configured by Jira administrators determine who can use Gantt Suite. The Security tab then controls access to individual Gantt charts.

Chart visibility

You can choose one of the following access modes:

Public

The chart is available to all users who have permission to access Gantt Suite.

Restricted

Access is granted only to the users and groups assigned to one of the available chart roles.

Note: Users must have permission to use Gantt Suite before they can access any chart, regardless of its visibility.

Chart roles

Users and groups can be assigned one of the following roles.

Role

Permissions

Role

Permissions

Manager

Full control of the chart, including chart configuration, permissions, sharing, and task management.

Editor

Can modify tasks, schedules, and reorder work items, but cannot change chart configuration or security settings.

Viewer

Read-only access to the chart.

Note: The chart owner is always a Manager and cannot be removed from the Managers list.

Users with the Editor role can also reorder tasks within the Gantt chart.

Managing users and groups

To grant access to a restricted chart:

  1. Open the Security tab.

  2. Select the appropriate role (Manager, Editor, or Viewer).

  3. Add the required Jira users or groups.

  4. Save the chart configuration.

Users immediately receive the permissions associated with their assigned role.

Impersonated View

If Impersonation has been enabled globally by a Jira administrator, chart managers can configure impersonation settings for individual charts.

This allows selected users to open the chart using the configured impersonation behavior.

For more information about configuring impersonation globally, see global app permissions
