Create Jira Work Items Inline
Did you know you can create new Jira work items directly from the chart without opening the Jira dialog? Inline editing makes the process faster and more seamless.
How to Create a Work Item
You can create a new Jira work item from the Summary column in two ways
Click the ➕ Plus icon to create a child work item
Click the … Actions icon to Select Create, and then choose:
New work item (sibling)
New child work item

|
|---|
|
|---|
Note:
For sub-tasks, only the option to create a new work item is available. Creating child items under a sub-task is not supported.
Note:
Work item creation depends on your Jira permissions. If you lack the required permissions, this option may not be available.
What Happens Next
Once creation is initiated:
A new inline row appears in the chart
The Summary field is focused automatically and must be filled in
The Issue Type is preselected (based on default or last used value)
You can then:
✔ Save the item
✖ Cancel
|
|---|
Keyboard Shortcuts
Speed up the process using keyboard shortcuts:
Alt + Enter → Create a sibling work item
Alt + Shift + Enter → Create a child work item
Alt + S → Save
Alt + D → Cancel
If there are required fields other than Summary, the Jira dialog will open automatically so you can complete the required information before saving the item.
Hierarchy Behavior
When creating a new Jira work item inline, its position in the hierarchy is determined by:
Jira space hierarchy
Chart configuration ( link types)
Creation Rules
Jira space hierarchy → Parent-child relationship is set using the Parent field (Parent Link field in Data Center)
Chart hierarchy configuration → A link is created using the "is child of" relationship

Inline Work Item Creation in Chart with Agile Scheduling
You can also quickly add new work items directly within Agile charts.
Use the ➕ Plus icon:
Next to a backlog to create a new work item in the backlog
Next to a sprint to create a new work item in the sprint
Please note that sprint creation is supported only for active or future sprints. If the sprint is closed, the work item cannot be created.
