FAQ
Getting Started
Gantt Suite for Jira is a project planning and resource management app that extends Jira with powerful Gantt chart capabilities. It helps teams visualize project timelines, manage task dependencies, plan resources, and build realistic project schedules while working directly with Jira data.
After installation, Jira administrators can access the company-wide configuration from the Apps Administration menu. Regular Jira users can open Gantt Suite from the Jira top navigation menu to create, view, and manage Gantt charts.
Company-wide Configuration is managed by Jira administrators and defines the default settings used for new charts across the organization. Chart Configuration is managed by chart managers and controls the settings for an individual chart, including projects, calendars, resources, scheduling, security, and sharing.
Yes. Gantt Suite is designed for both small and enterprise teams. It supports multi-project planning, resource management, advanced scheduling, scenarios, portfolio planning, and collaboration across departments.
Yes. Gantt Suite supports Jira Plans hierarchies. Configuration depends on your Jira deployment:
Jira Cloud: Set Hierarchy Link Type to None.
Jira Data Center: Set Hierarchy Link Type to Parent Link.

Planning & Scheduling
Yes. You can build a single Gantt chart from multiple Jira projects, boards, or JQL filters, making it suitable for cross-team planning and portfolio management.
Yes. You can configure chart calendars with working and non-working days and hours. You can also create individual resource calendars to reflect different working schedules for team members.
Scenarios let you safely test scheduling changes without affecting your live Jira data. Once you're satisfied with the result, you can synchronize the changes back to Jira.
Yes. You can create new Jira work items directly within the Gantt chart using inline editing, allowing you to build project plans without leaving the chart.
Yes. You can personalize the toolbar by showing, hiding, and rearranging actions to match your preferred workflow.
Yes. Gantt Suite allows you to create internal tasks that exist only within the Gantt chart. They are ideal for planning meetings, approvals, planning sessions, and other activities that don't need to be tracked in Jira.
Yes. Dependency Highlighting makes it easier to understand task relationships by highlighting incoming and outgoing dependencies for the selected task.
Yes. You can create and save multiple chart views with different filters and display settings, allowing you to quickly switch between perspectives without reconfiguring the chart each time.
Yes. You can copy an existing Gantt chart to reuse its configuration for another project or planning scenario. This helps you quickly create new charts without reconfiguring settings from scratch.
Resources
Gantt Suite helps you assign work, monitor team workload and availability, configure resource calendars, and resolve resource overload using Resource Leveling.
Sharing & Permissions
Yes. You can quickly share a Gantt chart by copying its direct link and sending it to users in your Jira organization. You can also configure chart sharing permissions to grant view or management access to specific users or groups.
Editing depends on the permissions granted by the chart manager. If you have view-only access, you can open and review the chart but cannot make changes.
Yes. Gantt Suite allows you to transfer chart ownership to another user. Once transferred, the new owner gains full control over the chart, including its configuration, sharing settings, and management.
Gantt Suite fully respects Jira permissions. Users can only view and modify Jira work items they have permission to access. The only exception is when Impersonated View is enabled for a chart. In this mode, work items are shared in a read-only view using the permissions of the selected impersonated user, allowing project plans to be shared securely without granting additional Jira permissions.
Import & Export
Yes. Charts can be exported to Microsoft Project, Excel, CSV, and image formats for reporting, analysis, and collaboration outside Jira.
Gantt Suite supports migration from Jira Data Center to Jira Cloud using the Atlassian Cloud Migration Assistant (JCMA). We recommend migrating your Jira data first and migrating Gantt Suite app data last. Before starting, review the migration prerequisites and supported features in the migration guide to ensure a smooth transition.
Performance
To improve performance, configure your chart to display only the work items you need. Applying a more specific JQL filter in the chart configuration reduces the number of loaded work items, making the chart faster and easier to work with.
Troubleshooting
Yes. When a chart is deleted, its status changes to Deleted and it can be restored within 7 days. To restore it, go to the Gantt Suite home page and change the chart status from Deleted to any available active status. After 7 days, or if the chart is permanently deleted, it cannot be restored.
If Auto Scheduling is enabled, Gantt Suite automatically recalculates the schedule when dependencies are added or modified. Dependent tasks are shifted to satisfy the selected dependency type while respecting task constraints and working calendars. If you prefer to adjust tasks manually, you can disable Auto Scheduling in the chart settings.
