General tab

General tab

The General tab is your entry point to configuring a new or existing calendar in Company Calendar for Jira. Here you define basic calendar details, ownership, event users, and permissions. These settings shape how the calendar functions and who can interact with it.

Creating a New Calendar

To create a calendar, click the Plus button located at the top right corner of the screen.

If you do not see the Plus button, it means you do not have the required Calendar creation permission. Please contact your Jira administrator to obtain one.

Once you click the Plus button, the Calendar Configuration dialog opens on the General tab. Provide the calendar name and, if needed, a description.

Copy Calendar

Use the Copy button to quickly duplicate a calendar. The new calendar inherits the original calendar's configuration, permissions, resources, and event sources.

The copied calendar is automatically named using the original calendar name with the "-copy" suffix. The user who performs the copy operation becomes the owner of the newly created calendar.

This feature can be used to create similar calendars without having to manually recreate their configuration.

Calendar Ownership

When a calendar is created, the user who created it automatically becomes its owner.

After the calendar is saved, the Owner field becomes editable. As the owner, you may assign a different owner at any time.

If needed, calendar owner can delete a calendar by clicking Delete calendar on the General tab.

For your convenience, we’ve added the name of a calendar you are about to delete to the confirmation message.

Resources1.mp4

Calendar Resources are no longer limited to Assignees. You can now configure calendars based on Jira custom fields, allowing work to be planned around the resources that truly matter

Supported Resource Fields

Calendars can be built using the following Jira field types:

  • User picker (single user)

  • Select List (single choice)

  • Radio Buttons

Each event is allocated to a resource value from the selected field, enabling accurate planning across shared or non-human resources.

As a calendar owner, you can set the calendar resources either by selecting the option From events (default) or Defined next to Resources.

By default, once a calendar is created, it displays users that are taken from existing calendar events. Calendar owner can set defined event resources. Meaning, the defined resources will be shown, on the left panel, even though there are might be no events assigned to them for a given calendar period.

If you need to see unassigned events, make sure to add “Unassigned” (for user-specific resource fields) or “Not Set” (for non-user-specific resource fields) to the list of defined users.

Important note
In Defined mode, the total time for events with multiple users includes only the time of users who are defined as event users.

Calendar permissions

As a calendar owner, you can configure permissions that control who can view, edit, and manage events.

All new calendars are private by default. Administrators can also update calendar permissions later through Calendar Management.

Defined users or groups

Private

Only the calendar owner can manage events.

You can refine event editing permissions even further by selecting the Manage only own events option. When this option is enabled, users who are not calendar owners can edit only the events they created. In other words, if a user is not the reporter of an event, they will not be able to modify it unless they are the calendar owner.

Jira Permissions Interaction

Jira permissions always apply to Jira dates events.

For example, if a user does not have the Edit Issues permission in Jira, they will not be able to edit their own Jira dates event even if they have event editing rights in the calendar.

A user who is not the event reporter may still edit the related Jira issue directly in Jira if they have the required Jira permissions.
