Jira Date Events

Jira Date Events

Jira Date Events allow you to visualize and manage Jira issues directly from your calendar. Each event is based on one or more Jira date or date-time fields configured in a Jira Date source, ensuring that calendar events remain synchronized with the corresponding Jira issues.

You can use Jira Date Events to schedule work, track important milestones, and update issue information without leaving Calendar.

Creating Jira Date Events

There are two ways to create Jira Date Events.

  • Use an existing Jira issue to display and schedule work that has already been created in Jira.

  • Create a new Jira issue directly from Calendar while creating the event.

Both methods automatically create a calendar event linked to the Jira issue.

Quick Issue Creation

Quick Issue Creation allows you to create Jira Date Events using Jira's native Create Issue dialog instead of the Calendar event dialog.

When this option is enabled for a Jira Date source, clicking the calendar opens the Jira issue creation dialog. To create an event using the Calendar dialog instead, click the Create Event (+) button above the calendar.

Working with Jira Fields

The fields displayed on the Create Event and Edit Event dialogs depend on the Jira Date source configuration.

Besides the standard Jira fields, administrators can configure additional fields such as:

  • Priority

  • Labels

  • Components

  • Fix Versions

  • Parent

  • Custom fields

When an existing Jira issue is selected, these fields are automatically populated with the current Jira values. Editable fields can be updated directly from Calendar.

Working with Sub-tasks

Calendar supports creating Jira issues of type Sub-task.

To create a Sub-task successfully, the Jira Date source must include the Parent field. During event creation, select the parent issue before saving the event.

Issue Security

If Issue Security is configured for the selected Jira project and you have the required permissions, the Security Level field is available when creating and editing Jira Date Events.

This allows you to control the visibility of the Jira issue without leaving Calendar.

Once an issue is created, the Jira dates event based on the issue will appear on your calendar.

Source Status

If a Jira Date source cannot be loaded because of a configuration or permission issue, an error indicator is displayed next to the source in the Left Panel.

Sources with configuration errors cannot be selected when creating events until the issue has been resolved.
