Creating Jira dates events based on existing Jira issues

Let’s assume that the Jira dates source you’ve created is based on a Single date field, Due Date, and is configured for a particular Project, SSPC.

To create a Jira dates event, simply, click on a calendar date. Once clicked, the Create Event dialog will appear. Since the project has been set for the source at the time of its configuration, it cannot be changed by a user at the time of the event creation.

For instance, you want to schedule the issue SSPC-9. Therefore, on Create Event dialog, insert SSPC-9 into the Issue field.

Note that the matching issue is shown in a drop-down list of suggestions. Once the matching issue is clicked, it will be instantly populated into the Issue field.

When an existing issue is inserted into the Issue field, the issue’s data such as issue type (1), summary (2), assignee (3) and description (4) are automatically populated into the corresponding fields.

If the information on Create Event meets your needs, the final step is to click the Save button in order for a Jira dates event to be created.

The created calendar event is shown as a block in the color that was selected in the source configuration the event is based on.

When the event block is clicked once, an information dialog will appear.

Let’s go over another example, and, this time, we’ll assume that you’ve created a Jira dates source that is based on Date Range - two date time pickers.

In addition, you’ve configured the issue fields to be displayed for Jira dates events such as Checkboxes, Labels, Priority and Due Date.

Once a user has selected a time slot by dragging on calendar, in time view, the values for the start and end times are filled in automatically based on the user's selection.

In case a user creates an event based on a date-time range, in the monthly view, the start and end times for the event are-prefilled based on the user's settings. Of course, in both cases, the values for the start and end times can be changed, if necessary.

On Create Event dialog, you will see the Start (1) and End (2) time of the event to be created.

In the example above, the event’s start time is 9:00 and the event’s end time is 11:00. So, where are these default values taken from?

The time values were populated automatically based on the User settings. The start time was taken from Start Hours (1) and the end time was calculated automatically based on the Start Hours (1) and Default Event Minutes (2) (9 + 2hrs = 11).

Since we’ve configured additional issue fields to be displayed for Jira dates events, once an issue is selected the fields and the field values (if they are given) are shown on Create Event dialog.

Moreover, the added fields are editable, and the values can be either given if not done earlier or overridden.

For instance, you want to provide the values for the fields Checkboxes and Labels.

The info dialog of the created event shows the values for the configured fields, including the ones that have just been updated.

There could be a case when the fields a Jira dates event is based on are not editable. These are the fields such as Created, Updated, Last Viewed, Resolved, etc. As a result, a user will not be able to change a date for such fields either on Create/Edit Event dialog nor by drag-and-dropping an event.

For instance, you’ve created a Jira dates source based on a single date, Created, which is not editable.

Once you open the Edit Event dialog for an event that is based on Created field, the date will be greyed out.
