The event assignment in Timeline view

The event assignment can be easily managed in Timeline view.

To perform a quick event assignment in Timeline view, switch from Issues to Users tab.

Supposing you want to assign an unassigned Jira dates event.

make sure the Unassigned user is enabled on the Users tab
then, drag-and-drop an unassigned Jira dates event to a particular user

Don’t see Unassigned user on Users tab, make sure the Unassigned user is added to the list of defined event users in calendar configuration.

Assuming, the current user and target user are granted the required project permissions, the Jira dates event shall be assigned to a target user.

Please see an example below where a Jira dates event initially based on unassigned issue MSP-205 was assigned to a user.

When it comes to custom event assignment in Timeline view, the procedure is very similar to Jira dates event assignment with a few differences.

you cannot assign a custom event to Unassigned user unless the custom event is based on a custom-defined event type that does not require users
when you drag a custom event initially assigned to multiple users to a particular user, the start point user will be removed from the event users and a target user will be added to the event users

Let’s see some examples below.

Example 1

The custom source “Knowledge Center“ is based on a custom-defined event type that does not require users.

Therefore, an event based on the source “Knowledge Center“ can be drag-and-dropped to Unassigned user in Timeline view.

Example 2

Supposing there is a custom event with multiple event users. In a calendar view it is displayed as a single event block. In Timeline view, on the other hand, when the Users tab is selected on the Left panel, the event is displayed multiple times, next to each user, the event participant.

By dragging the event, let's say, from user Maleah to user Margaret, you are removing Maleah from the list of event users and adding user Margaret instead.
