Recurring Events

Recurring Events

Recurring Events allow you to create Custom Events that repeat automatically on a defined schedule. Instead of creating the same event multiple times, you can configure a recurrence pattern and let On Calendar generate the remaining events for you.

Recurring events are available only for Custom Events. Jira Date Events cannot be configured as recurring because they are synchronized with Jira issue fields.

Create a Recurring Event

To create a recurring event:

  1. Create a new Custom Event.

  2. Complete the required event information.

  3. Select a recurrence pattern.

  4. Configure the recurrence settings.

  5. Click Save.

Calendar automatically creates all occurrences based on the selected recurrence.

Recurrence Options

Calendar provides several predefined recurrence patterns.

You can choose:

  • Daily

  • Weekly

  • Bi-weekly

  • Monthly

  • Yearly

  • Custom

For more flexibility, select Custom to define your own recurrence schedule.

Create a Custom Recurrence

Custom recurrence allows you to define exactly how often an event repeats.

Depending on your requirements, you can configure:

  • repetition frequency;

  • repeat interval;

  • end date;

  • number of occurrences.

This provides greater flexibility for events that do not follow a standard schedule.

Edit Recurring Events

You can edit recurring events in the same way as other Custom Events.

Open the Edit Event dialog by:

  • clicking Edit from the Event Information dialog; or

  • double-clicking the event.

Changes apply according to the selected recurrence option.

Delete Recurring Events

When deleting a recurring event, choose how many occurrences should be removed.

Available options include:

  • This event – deletes only the selected occurrence.

  • This and following events – deletes the selected occurrence and all future occurrences.

  • All events – deletes the entire recurring series.

Limitations

Keep the following limitations in mind:

  • Recurrence is supported only for Custom Events.

  • Jira Date Events cannot be configured as recurring because they are synchronized with Jira.

  • Changes to recurring events affect only the selected occurrence or series, depending on the option you choose.

  • When recurring events are displayed in exported calendars, occurrences are expanded using the calendar owner's time zone. Users in different time zones may notice time shifts when daylight saving time begins or ends.

Note

If users in different time zones view the same exported recurring events, the displayed time may vary during daylight saving time transitions.

Tips

  • Use predefined recurrence patterns whenever possible for faster event creation.

  • Choose Custom only when the standard options do not meet your scheduling needs.

  • Before deleting a recurring event, verify whether you want to remove a single occurrence or the entire series.
